What is a situation you could shoot someone with a gun for self defense?
I know if you punch me and I shoot you thats illegal.
But how much force can a person use before u can shoot them. (possibly kill them)
There is no clear cut answer for this question.
In short:
If you feel that you are in mortal danger you have the right to kill someone. You better be ready to explain that mortal danger to the police. Some states have laws in place that allow you to shoot anyone who has broken into your home. Some states extend this to anyone on your property but also include most of the "mortal danger" into the law. Some unarmed person asking for your wallet isn't enough of a reason to kill them but is enough reason for you to point a gun at them.
I think all states have laws in place that allow the perpetrator to flee. In other words. If you pull a gun out and the guy starts running away for his life you better not shoot.
And don't listen to the people that say drag the person into your house. That doesn't work. There is something called a blood trail and forensic science that can determine where the person was when they were shot.
