IIIA Bullet Proof Vest, Is it good?
How powerful of a bullet would it be able to stop?
Based on tests done by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), IIIa ballistic armor will stop nearly all handgun rounds, including .357 and .44 magnum. It will also stop shotgun slugs and buckshot.
Nearly any centerfire rifle cartridge will penetrate IIIa armor.
It should be noted, however, that just because a vest stops the bullet does not mean that it completely protects the wearer from harm. There is still a huge amount of energy transferred through the vest and into the person. This force is often enough to beak ribs or damage internal organs. Most of the time, being shot completely incapacitates the person, despite the vest.
