Hit and run question?
How long would it take for police to catch a hit and run driver if you only have a description of the vehicle? Can they be caught if they take their car to get it fixed? Do they right down the vin# and license plate when you take a car to a body shop? Someone hit my car in the middle of the night. It was parked. I heard screeching tires and loud engine then boom. Someone took a turn too fast and lost control of their car and hit mine. It was dark and I couldn't read the plate #. I told the police it was a dark colored sports car. They found maroon paint chips at the scene. So the know its a maroon sports car with minor front end damage. Do they check out the body shops to look for cars that might fit the bill? Or if an employee of a shop notices a suspicious claim, like a large amount to fix it and they don't use their insurance. They use out of pocket instead will they tell police? I want to get this person caught!
As my superiors will tell me to tell you, we do not have enough man-power to look for the vehicle, although if one of our daily patrols finds it we will be sure to bring the driver in - although they'll most likely come up with some excuse, such as they juist bought the car a mile or two up the road.
