Does this sound like a good personal-defense weapon?
When I turn 18 I am planning on buying and extending stun baton. I don't live in the best of neighborhoods, and I'm not a particularly intimidating person. Since I can't legally carry a handgun yet (I live in Missouri and i think the legal age to own a hand gun and get a CCW is 23) I want the next best thing other than a knife. I don't want to kill anyone if I have to defend myself. It's a 700K volt stun baton that extends from 12.5 inches to 21 inches. I would really prefer to have a stun gun but those run for about $300 minimum. so, does this sound like a good defense weapon? i was planning on getting my girlfriend one too.
what about a pocket sized stun weapon or a pepper spray canister/gun?
Useless. Back in the early 80's I evaluated a 18 inch stun baton with built in flashlight that my department was thinking of issuing to officers walking the vertical beat in our high rise public housing projects.
They proved to be useless. A regular wooden baton worked better (we did not have quality collapsibles back then) for cops.
To put it simply with a hand held stun gun/baton of any sort you have to get to close to and hold the stunner on the bad guy for to long to get him to go down so you can run away.
They are impressive when they arc but I found that did not deter an attacker.
I suggest a high quality pepper spray, buy one from a police supply house like galls.com, and buy an inert practice one so you can learn how to use it. Most people never try these things out and they fail to use whatever they have correctly when the time comes.. Your of age in your state and capsicum works well enough for you to have time to get away.
